About SBS

I created this brand from a deeply personal journey with skincare, rooted in my heritage from Ghana, West Africa. Growing up, shea butter—sourced from the shea trees of Northern Ghana—was a staple in my family’s daily routine. Known locally as “women’s gold,” it is carefully hand-processed by women’s cooperatives who have passed down the tradition for generations. After moving away from home, I drifted towards mainstream high street skincare, chasing the promise of quick fixes and flawless skin. Yet, I found myself disappointed and struggling with dry, inflamed skin. It was in reconnecting with shea butter that I rediscovered the power of natural ingredients—not only to soothe and protect the skin, but to serve as the very first step in caring for the body as a whole.

In 2021, I took a bold step and began creating my own formulations, starting with a simple shea body butter. When I shared it at a local market, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Through refining the texture and scent, and later incorporating ingredients inspired by global traditions—from Moroccan oils and South American botanicals to the richness of oud from Dubai—I realised I was building more than skincare; I was building a community of people who valued authenticity, wellness, and natural beauty. Alongside the body butter, I introduced our Black Soap Shower Gel, derived from traditional African black soap produced in Ghana using age-old methods. Made with locally sourced plantain skins, cocoa pod ash, palm kernel oil, and shea butter, this soap is hand-crafted by women who blend these ingredients over open fires, creating a natural cleanser rich in antioxidants and minerals. Studies have shown that African black soap may help reduce acne, soothe eczema, and gently exfoliate while maintaining the skin’s natural oils. Our range has since expanded to include a Facial Oil, Facial Wash, and a Kaolin Pink Clay Face Mask, all designed to hydrate, balance, and restore skin to its natural glow. What began as a personal solution has grown into a brand that celebrates heritage, wellness, and the belief that skincare should truly work with your body, not against it.
